The Imperium is a civilisation of over 11,000 solar systems.  The Imperium operates on a feudal basis, with authority devolving from the Emperor to local princes and dukes who rule over sectors, subsectors and individual worlds.  The Imperium rules the space between the stars and governs trade and interstellar law, but does not beyond certain limits interfere in any world's domestic affairs.  As such, each world within the Imperium is free to develop its own local form of government and economy provided that this does not conflict with the larger feudal structure.

The Imperium maintains an Imperial Navy, Army and Marine force for the enforcement of its rule and an Imperial Scout Service for the discovery and exploration of new worlds.  The Office of the Concordat is an organisation responsible for the policing of proscribed technologies and the categorisation of worlds as Green, Amber or Red Zones (Green being freely accessible, Amber being accessible but with an advisory warning and Red meaning prohibited to access without specific clearance from the Office of the Concordat).

The dominant language of the Imperium is Spanish.
