Calvary

Class C starbase, routine quality installation, unrefined fuel available, reasonable repair facilities. No scout or naval base

Planetary size of 9, dense tainted atmosphere, 50% water, population of 1,000, participating democracy, law level 6 (firearms prohibited save shotguns, weapons discouraged). Amber zone

Calvary is an archaeological and scientific research colony based on a high mountain plateau, which appears to have been used as a necropolis for the planet’s original population. Sentient life on Calvary has been extinct for approximately 1.3m years, but prior to its extinction was advanced, in particular with many items being constructed using nanotechnology. It is unclear what rendered the indigenes extinct, although a plague appears the likeliest hypothesis. Calvary has little by way of legal trade goods, but is a popular source for smuggled nanotech artefacts, particularly simple devices such as indestructible tools and implements or frictionless slides. Artistic artefacts can sometimes be exported, but licences are required and are time consuming to arrange.

Following the intervention of the crew of the Old Speckled Hen, one of the planet's major archeological sites was nuked from orbit resulting in the death of an entire generation of Crab Thing aliens as well as a number of members of the scientific staff.

Calvary imports much of its food from Triffid, a nearby agricultural world (named after its unusual motile plant life) and imports high technology and entertainment items from Lucidus, an industrial system.

As a participating democracy, Calvary has no government as such with which to conduct negotiations. However, in practice Dr Myriam Querido handles most commercial matters for the colony. The Starport is headed by Captain Nicolas Albano, assisted by head of security Ernesto Cieza and trade director Aleja Chavez.

The Concordat is also present on Calvary, local Concordat Liaison officer is Agent Paola Verdugo.

Calvary has a secondary colony on a separate plateau, Acropolis, where a small population of native sentients have been created using a local base apparently set up for use by whatever aliens might find it.

A capital ship is currently in Calvary orbit, presumably to prevent illicit entry into prohibited areas of the planet.
